Tried using the neti pot last night to rinse out my nose etc. as per Dr. Horvitz's orders from the last time I had a sinus infection. I am not sure where some of the water went but it was not out the other nostril. I know that some of it came down the back of my throat; I made sure to spit it out rather than swallow, since that's actually one of the phases of using a neti pot according to the instructions I had. Unfortunately, wherever the extra water went, it left me with worse coughing and such last night and this morning I sound not unlike Miles Davis.

*grumble*

I'll be at Duane Reade at lunchtime, comparing the instructions and active ingredients on OTC sinus meds, and possibly Mucinex- it's been years since I had to take the stuff and I don't know if it's suited for 'clean the green goo out' or if it's meant for throat/chest foo.

Mucinex will do head goo, chest goo--any kind of mucus you have. Drink plenty of water with it, as it works by thinning the mucus down so it drains faster. Do not get the kind with a decongestant in it, if you ever want to sleep again. I made that mistake in June...

Also, get the name brand, not the generic.

I made his mistake earlier this year. The generic from CVS did ABSOLUTELY nothing for me at all; I just kept horking up used rubber cement.

You'll have to wait out front and hork at me there, 'cause I'll be hipping the front desk that there's a dangerous horker on the loose and they won't want you horking on the pretty elevators.

Betcha the Bourbon'd clear them sinuses out right quick.

It's worth watching again with the sound, though, seriously. The music is lovely.

It's not so much knowing how to spit disgustingly. It's knowing how to spit accurately, and at distance. Spitting disgustingly is for amateurs. If you can clear a set of train tracks, without getting any on your lapel or on that of any other person, life is enriched thereby.

Blow your nose first, and tip your chin all the way down to your chest, and then your ear to one shoulder and then tip the neti in. It takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it. You can also use a syringe instead.

Aaaaaw. Sounds like you've got the respitory infection from hell, Cam.

Kay. Mucinex = awesome and probably the best way to help clear up a resp. infection. It thins the mucus that is produced, and also amps up the mucus production, to make everything all runny and easy to cough up/spit out/sneeze/blow/etc. This way you don't have huge gobs of infection just hanging out in your lungs and sinuses.

Yes, get the name brand, take it religiously, and drink lots of water.

And don't take a decongestant at the same time. The two effects completely negate one another. Mucinex: more mucus production; decongestant: dries up mucus.

If you have a steam breathalizer, I used to use those with just a drop of peppermint oil. Helped clear me up like you wouldn't believe.
