Willis Carrier is a god.

However, even a god's creations are subject to the laws of physics, which state that cool air sinks and warm air rises. I live on the topmost floor of a walk-up apartment building, and my a/c is a unit designed for a single room, and my bed is in the highest part of the apartment.

I think I"m not even going to try to sleep on the bed tonight. Couch ahoy.

Me, I have the same issue with walk-up apartments and hot air rising; there's at least two thermoclines in the stairwell.

But I am a wuss and I have my air conditioner in the bedroom window because otherwise I would have to crawl into the fridge, and the fridge, like Dirk Gently's, is frightening.

Grargh. Mine's a two-room, with bathroom off the hall between kitchen and living/bedroom. All one level. Nevertheless, i try to keep the door to the kitchen shut as much as humanly possible, to conserve the wonder of the ac.

My sympathies.

You could always station a high=speed fan below the cool air stream in front of the A/C pointed at the loft....

I am right there with you. I don't have separate leves but of course, the A/C unit is in the farthest room possible from the bedroom. :/

Good luck.
