camwynWell, shit. Guess it's a good thing I've been planning out routes and priorities around my neighbourhood, huh? This is the part where I get out my bike and load up my saddlebags; along with my backpack that should be plenty of cargo space, and I can cover a mile in five minutes on that thing, which should outrun any of the damn zedheads. Minor problem in my area, though: the local Target doesn't sell guns, neither does the Modell's- and the stores that do are all in areas of town I can't reach with any kind of speed.
HOWEVER.
The hardware store two blocks over has shovels- like, proper metal shovels- and grindstones and sharpening tools. Oh, they SAY those are for chisels and saws but you and I both know what to make of those. And me, well... there's a beauty salon and a liquor store just around the corner. That's flammables. Five minutes in either of those and my saddlebags'll hold enough to open a path to wherever I've got to go. And I do have to go. This is Jersey City. I can tell you right now that there are going to be people who DO have guns making their way to the bigger stores, and I don't harbour any delusions about what they're gonna do to anyone they consider a competitor in terms of surviving against the living dead. I need my flammables and my hardware, and then it's off to Modell's; they might not have guns but they do have hunting arrows, and I'm not going to worry about them being over-spined if they've got Muzzy bone-cutter broadheads in stock. Then whatever food stores I can still buy from or otherwise get into. There's a Target, an A&P, and a Price Club within a mile and a half of home, plus the smaller stores along the way. I should be able to load up respectably as those saddlebags are big mofos. Then I'm going back to my building. There's only one stairwell and a bunch of fire escapes; as long as we can get the bottom part of the stairwell sabotaged and pull up the fire escapes at ground level, the upper floors should be reasonable to hold out in. Some of the folks around here have rooftop gardens. Looks like we're gonna have to put one in ourselves. Those of you who're in the area and think you can make it to the Hudson, I strongly suggest the use of the ferry rather than the PATH or NJ Transit; get to Exchange Place and then make a run for it. I'll let you in if I can.
And just for the record, I'm keeping my bike helmet on from now on.

Possibly 3) World-wide contamination everywhere at once but honestly, if that were the case we'd be seeing a lot more greys, wouldn't we?
