camwynI have to go up to our disaster recovery site and do terrible things to the server today, but I'd just like to take a moment to commemorate an anniversary that doesn't involve horrible things:
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard.
I grew up directly under the main flight path for La Guardia Airport's Marine Air Terminal. Every plane I ever saw as a child had its landing gear out, unless it had pontoons. Most evening television had some degree of interference from airplane radio chatter. The sound of human beings in the sky is the sound of my childhood, ad more than many, the Wright brothers are the ones responsible for that sound.
