If you're still coughing, you might have a reactive airway problem.

Does the cough seem to be triggered by breathing deep or laughing?

Unfortunately, yes.

If my nose would stop draining down the back of my throat this wouldn't be such a problem.

You might want to see your doctor and have him listen for wheezing on forced expiration. If you've got that, some albuterol will work wonders. :)

Evidently Whooping Cough is making a comeback.

Whooping Cough has been making a comeback for the last five years. The thing is, you can sometimes get it even if you've had the whole series as a kid. It's a milder, sub-acute case, but it's becoming standard to test a patient for pertussis when they come in with a chronic cough that simply WON'T go away.

Mmm, dextromethorphan. You still have the coughing fits, but you're not in your body and don't care anymore. (This is what happens to me, anyway. I'm pretty sure it's idiosyncratic.)
