Oct. 25th, 2006 08:58 amSaw Torchwood last night- the first episode, anyway- and I gotta say... not really impressed. No offense to the Captain Jack fans, but when you spend most of the ep going "Somewhere, a Texan is facepalming"- or "I had a nightmare that looked almost exactly like that once"- a wet John Barrowman just isn't gonna cut it.
We'll see if Episode 2 picks up at all.

Date: 2006-10-25 05:51 pm (UTC)The first couple of eps from any show are going to be rough, so at this point it's all about potential, and I see quite a lot at this point. Particularly after seeing the second ep, which developed its story in a way no American broadcast network would have the guts to do.
The production values are good, the dialogue is fine, the characters are set up pretty well. Barrowman is definitely going to be carrying the show, but he's convinced me he can do that--even though I don't care whether he gets wet or not, which is probably sad for me. =)

Date: 2006-10-25 08:25 pm (UTC)Yeah, the 'mass hallucination' thing is unbelievably lame. And given that the X-Files approach has, by definition, been done already, it would have been more gutsy for them to assume the events of Doctor Who and go from there. An Earth where humans know there are aliens would be much more interesting.
So, yeah, I'm with you regarding episode one. My Inner Texan is headdesking like mad. Though I still give the show props in the other respects.
Curious to see what you'll think of ep two.
