Tylenol is a great fever reducer. I have no idea what the chemical pathway is that it uses, but within minutes of swallowing the stuff, my body suddenly remembers- OH YEAH WE SHOULD SWEAT NOW HUH.

Chloraseptic, on the other hand, is a total bitch that needs to die horribly. Because I tried spraying some at the back of my throat to quiet the HORK HORK HORK coughing that my post nasal drip periodically triggers, and it happened to hit the gag reflex spot. At which point the Tylenol fled the premises.

I've taken more of the stuff and I'm sucking a Chloraseptic lozenge. And I am sweating like an extra in an H. Rider Haggard novel.

time to go order soup.

Yikes. That's what I hate about Chloraseptic, too. Because if coughing doesn't make me throw up, spraying nasty-tasting crap at the back of my throat sure as hell will! The lozenges never worked quite as well for me, but maybe it'll work better for you. Hopefully.

*sends get-well vibes*

Acetaminophen/Paracetamol

Surrogate MOM says: The active ingredient in Tylenol is Acetaminophen, also known as Paracetamol. It is found in a *remarkable* number of over the counter medications, including sudafed and alka-seltzer. You shouldn't take more than one dose of this active ingredient within 4-6 hours, i.e. don't take multiple over-the-counter meds within the same 4 hr period. Severe liver damage, pain and seizures, can result from an overdose. For a complete list of the major meds in the USA, see:
http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/medicine_cabinet/acetaminophen.html
The Wikipedia article on it is at

My son is allergic to aspirin, so he takes paracetamol (Panadol in Finland) instead.
Good you are sweating. Wrap yourself in terry cloth (towels) or sweatshirts (now you know why they are called that) to absorb the sweat, and change frequently. Bathe/shower twice a day. If you were living with me, I'd heat the sauna for you.
Keep us posted on your progress. :*
