The Harlem Valley Rail Ride, run by Bike New York, was today. I signed up for it a while ago because I plan on riding one hundred miles in an event in September, and I wanted a training ride in the meantime. I may need to find another between now and then, for sixty-four miles or seventy-five. (Sixty-four crops up now and again because it's a metric century. A hundred miles is a century ride; sixty-four miles = 100 kilometers.)

The burny bits are sunburns and some chafing in places. This was, however, the first distance ride I've been on where I didn't have my period, so that, at least, was not too bad.

AHH! I thought the burny bits were the tingling from over-exerted muscles. Never thought of actual sunburn. Duh!
Still, I am impressed. I can spell bicycle!
Havent ridden one since the dawn of time.

Egads, woman. That is... amazing. I couldn't even go one mile.

It's easier than it sounds. A mile on a bicycle is about equivalent to 1/4 or 1/3 of a mile as done by a runner, in my experience. Mostly 'cos you can't coast or change gears when running.

I fully expect to wake up tomorrow and have difficulty moving at all, but we'll see how it goes. It was totally worth it.

The one problem I have with these events is that afterwards, everyone else goes home and flops immediately. I go home and I have to get the bike up to a fourth floor walkup apartment. That thing had a shipping weight of 37 pounds. If I've just got home on the train, the last thing I want is to heft it off the ground and start moving upwards again with it.
