Today, I circumnavigated the Hudson.
Jul. 22nd, 2006 08:34 pmWhich is to say I set out from home on my bicycle, rode it from Jersey City all the way up to the George Washington Bridge*, rode OVER the George Washington Bridge, rode down along the Hudson to the World Trade Center PATH station**, took the train to the Exchange Place PATH station, eeped at the sight of a multi-block music festival*** that I could not possibly ride through, detoured one block to the right, rode to the Subway store, got a sammitch, and rode home.
26.2 miles on bike and foot, then the train journey, then 0.78 miles.
55 miler next weekend, here I come.
*(pausing once to walk it uphill- this was RIGHT around Palisades Park, which is really lovely to ride in but happens to be at the foot of cliffs that HATE HATE HATE people- not to mention that the road narrows down to one lane, no shoulder, in either direction and it is twisty and the cars want to kill you)
**(i.e., the furthest south point from which you can get from Manhattan to NJ on weekends without going weirdly out of your way on a ferry)
***(which may have been a cultural festival, but I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be Caribbean nations, Afro-Caribbean immigrant culture, or African-American in nature- the attendees were primarily Black and a lot of Jamaican flags were in sight, but so were other Caribbean flags and some flags I didn't recognize at all, and the music was rap and performed in English)

Date: 2006-07-23 04:52 pm (UTC)The ride over the George was amazing. I wish they didn't forbid the use of cameras. I'd have taken a snap of the Hudson from the middle.
