I may just possibly be wrong, but I think I may have an idea of what happens to the Ulgos after the Malloreon is over- or at least to that faction of the Ulgos that believes that the caves were not intended for them from the beginning as their permanent home. It's in the early pages of King of the Murgos, when the party stops at Prolgu. Gorim says he's sure that UL will return Relg's son to the caves at the proper time.

Part of me wonders if Relg's son might not speak unto the Ulgos and say to them that UL wishes his son Mara's people to thrive and prosper, which cannot be done when only two people are the foundation of a race; would those who believe they may enter into the sunlight and dwell there all the days of their lives consider moving to Maragor?

It certainly makes more sense than Relg and Tabia repopulating Maragor by themselves.

You're probably right. The book did say that an arrangement between Mara and UL had been worked out.

Sometimes though, I wonder what goes on in Eddings' head. Like Polgara. In the Belgaraid and the Mallorean, she was a wonderful character, but in Polgara the Sorceress, she was, and I don't use the term lightly, a total Mary Sue and made Belgarath and everyone else look like a moron.

I wondered about that when I read the Polgara book. Then again, he did co-write it with his wife, right?

I think it was in Belgarath the Sorcerer that Eddings said his wife has had a hand in pretty much everything he's written and will write.

At least one of them is a lover of formula though.

Mmm, I dunno. Polgara does describe herself as very much the wolf and subserviant to Beldaran and Poledra. Belgarath also said several times that it's not in a wolf's nature to lie or decieve.

It may not be in a wolf's nature to lie, but it's observably in Polgara's.

She's pretty damn good at it.

"Where's Brill"

"Learning to fly..."

"How's he doing?"

"Does bouncing count?"

That, or..

"I have a KEY. It works something like THIS.."

I now feel much less dorky. My mother introduced me to the series when I was around seven or eight, and the books -- as well as the tamuli and the elenium -- have been the source of many of our in-jokes ever since.
