World of Darkness: Shadows of the United Kingdom, now?

Uh huh. Look, a, I broke my WoD addiction a very long time ago; White Wolf killed my ability to care long before Mage 2.0 came out. I have no clue what that game world is like any more, and I don't want to get a new one. I'll consider the Exalted world from the same people, but WoD? Not so much, not any more. And b, is that supposed to be some kind of WE KNOW YOU'RE AN HONOURARY BRIT, COME PLAY thing or what?

Yeesh.

Exalted's full of awesome. They took all the great stuff from the first edition, and made it better.

I hated WoD1 from the word go. It never had a chance with me.

WoD2 is far, far, far better. It's worth a look. Not so much angst, much less metaplot (and many options to define your own version of the world -- they give three different possible origins for vampirism, for example), much MUCH better quality writing and art.

No Technocracy. No Wyrm. No Antediluvians. No imminent apocalypse of any kind unless you want one.

All three supernaturals have been pared down from a clunky thirteen-archetype system to a nice sleek five apiece.

And the Brit book? Too cool for words. Trust me. :)

Bought into WoD1 until I read Wraith and got so apocalyptically depressed I hid under my bed for a week and then sold my entire stack of White Wolf stuff. Which included almost everything they'd done by then. *kicks self for selling it now*

Still love the original Succubus Club, which had me bouncing when I first saw it on a game store shelf in Cambridge (and it wasn't quite so cliched an idea back then). Still think Werewolf 1.0 was a brilliant rethinking of an old idea. But it didn't take long before all the clans and whatnot just made the whole damn world feel like high school. And I've never liked dice pools.

On the other hand, if my gaming circle had been the slightest bit interested in it at the time, and I'd had a chance to run it for a while, I might have really grooved on it. Will never know.

But, as it is, I think Eden Studios' Witchcraft is a better alternative in many ways.

The old WoD sourcebook for Britain was inoffensive, unlike the one for Shadowrun which took the art of "Dark cartography" to Dick Van Dyke extremes.

Last WW book I bought was the Mummy stuff, unsurprisingly.

Ah. memories

Arise, children of Who_Knits
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us, the tyranny's
Knitted banner is raised. (repeat)
Do you hear in the fields
The howling of these savage knitters?
They are coming into your midst
To rip out the rows of your scarves!
:D
