Status report.

camwynHad the day off yesterday. Went very well, I think. Dealt with work-related stuff from about 9:30 AM to 11ish - lonnnng phone call - but work seems to think I won't need to call again on Monday.
Eventually found the zoo no thanks to DeLorme 2001 street atlas software - there wasn't a Quincy St. exit on the road they told me to take! Zoo okay, though it could really use renovation. Babirusa (wild swine species) smell worse than aught else in zoo. Maned wolf GORGEOUS, rather larger than I'd thought. Spectacled bears wake up if you drop your bottle of water in front of their enclosure, but go back to sleep if you apologise. (No joke.) Many many beautiful snakes and lizards in reptile house incl. at least two FINE Komodo dragons.

cadhla, honey, you're going to kill me again. I saw the evolutionary ancestor of the peeve. Either that or their main predator... it's called a fosse, and it's native solely to Madagascar, and it eats lemurs and similar things. Looks like a cross between a mountain lion and an otter, with the otter winning on size and movement and body plan and the lion winning on colour, paws, head, and tail. Eyes way larger than either species; ears beginning to get big and peevelike. Fosse are rarely exhibited in zoos. I took photos.
Went to the Alamo after that. First & so far only place I've seen in Texas where the men actually take their hats off; the main church w/famous front side is a shrine to the dead. Has a list of the names of those who fell in the final siege, a list which ends with "_____________, John, a Black Freeman". V. odd to see Crockett referred to as David rather than Davey but it *is* a memorial.
Went to Giant Lizard Double Feature after that. Croc Hunter movie was fun; Reign of Fire was tres cool. I likes me some post-apocalyptic British design sense. Will say no more for fear of spoilers.
On with the day. I'm at work now, 'cos day off is over. Will let you know how it goes.
