Australia in Texas.
Jul. 10th, 2002 02:27 pmOkay, this was just a weird experience.
So I won't make this one as long...
What it amounts to is that I went to the Alamo two nights ago - you know, the ALAMO, the one that's the site of massive Mexican/American interaction - the one that people are supposed to remember, 'cos it's Texan and people got killed? That Alamo? - and across the street, sharing floor space with La Tienda Souvenirs, was... an Australian souvenir shop. Pop over to About Australia's web site to have a better look. They sell nothin' but Australian stuff - stuffed Aussie animals, scary Aussie candy like Picnic and Cherry Ripe, pins that say NO SWIMMING, CROCODILES, didjeridu music, wooly slippers and stuffed Merino rams, and really cool hats. Given that I have discovered the cowboy hat is NOT just a stereotype of Texans, but something these people actually WEAR, I felt it best if I get myself a hat. So I did - something from the Coastline Hat Company of Australia. I like it a great deal.
Oi,
cadhla? Want a stuffed kookaburra that laughs when you squeeze it, or will the stuffed Texas longhorn do well enough?
