I went to the doctor yesterday to get my coughing and dripping looked at. I will tell you this right now: I am immediately better inclined towards any non-paediatrician who is willing to use the word 'booger' in an official medical conversation. Dr. Horovitz did a full physical exam including chest x-rays and blood samples, and confirmed that what I have is basically drowning in post nasal head goo- actually, he may have used the word 'snot' instead of 'head goo', but he confirmed my belief that post-nasal drip is evil. His treatment?

1. "Do you know what a neti pot is?"
2. "After you've bought one, or bought one of these devices- this isn't a prescription, I'm just writing the name down so you'll know what to buy OTC if that's how you decide to go- use it, and then use this Nasonex sample I'm giving you. Also, get the Nasonex prescription filled and use that."
3. "And here's Augmentin. Take it for a week- one tablet in the morning, one at night, always with meals."

I have never before had to perform a home medical procedure wherein I stuck stuff in one nostril and made it come out the other on purpose. I'm not sure I like it, but if it helps…

He's a good doctor and I can write up the visit in detail if anyone is looking for an internist or pulmonary specialist in Manhattan. But it all boils down to 'you don't have bronchitis or pneumonia, you have a sinus infection'. So, yay.

Also, ph34r condotierre's powers of hissing. She hissed at the traffic blocking my route to the doctor's office and it went away.

It sounds incredibly idiotic, and it feels weird, but the whole sinus-washing thing actually does seem to work. If it helps.

Neti pots are love. I prescribe them for my patients sometimes.

But they do feel WEIRD! :)

When I couldn't sleep because of cough from post-nasal drip from sinus infection, G introduced me to "Buckley's Mixture". It tastes like mentholated cleaning fluid, but 4-8 hours of cough-free sleep later I felt a lot better.
