Heat is fine, but there's a difference between 'a little heat' and 'AGH I'm drinking SHOE POLISH' levels of ginger on top of an already unfamiliar taste.

There was a soft drink of carbonated ginger in Tanzania (Stoney Tangawizi) that all the other mzungus (whites) thought I was crazy to like, because it made them all choke... I just LOVE ginger...

*sigh* I don't remember drinking shoe polish, but either my sister or I probably did. I know my sister once ingested furniture polish. I don't mind crystallized or pickled ginger, but other forms tend to get me.
