I have CURTAINS.

I am inordinately proud of this fact. They are ordinary and blue and cotton and from the inexpensive section of Target, but they are attractive, even if the cat is furiously trying to attack the fabric care tag on the lower hem. They are hanging from curtain rods that I chose for their appropriateness with tab-top curtains and for their aesthetic appeal. They're, like, the first item I bought for the house that was bought solely to be aesthetic, unless you want to count the rag rug in the bathroom- and that was mostly so that I wouldn't drip on the floor without something to absorb it. It's just that the secondary purpose was 'hmm, very attractive'. The curtains? One of the blinds broke and came down when I pulled it a few weeks ago, and this time I couldn't put it back up because parts had snapped in the process. I bought the curtains for the two living room windows so that I'd have somethign more attractive than another set of blinds.

I think I'm beginning to understand why Sims characters react so well to items that improve the Atmosphere rating of a given room. Not that I didn't chose my couch and table and stuff because of their appeal- I did- but this just makes it look more like a human being lives here. That, and having cleaned up the living room, which mystifies the cats ("MOOOOOOM! Where is the crap on the coffee table? I was lying down on that crap all last week!"). Also I put up my first set of Christmas lights and wrapped it around the stairs to my loft, and hung up a framed poster of a lightning storm over a Tanzanian game reserve, and put up a hook in the bathroom for my bathrobe and extra towel.

I'm going shopping this afternoon and getting more Christmas lights and a lampshade in addition to food. I'm not doing anything extravagant until next pay period, but my parents gave me a floor lamp that's much more attractive than the one the lsat tenant had, and I'd like to use it properly. Then I'm going to scrub the bathroom and probably the kitchen floor, I think. ANd then when I'm done I'm going to say "WHAT THE HELL?", shake my head furiously, and write up what happened to John Constantine after he got done wishing he could drop possessed fire ants down Dumbledore's robes because he didn't get in a good smoke before the sixth-year Slytherin class.

Sound fair?

My apologies. I shall deal with John first, then, as I doubt Target is goign anywhere and I really only have to get through the 'Accio pants!' scene.

Nah, I'm not poor, and I've never actually seen Naruto. It's just that the first food items on my shopping list for today are 'whole wheat bread' and 'cold cuts', so I'm a little out of sandwich fixings, and making pasta would take longer than ramen.

Give the girl ten out of ten. Congratulations - your little nest is beginning to sound quite comfortable. Do you know, I had to wait decades to get to furnish a place of my own. You are very lucky. But, I *wish* you hadn't mentioned Tanzania - you blindsided me. I miss Tanzania so very much, that the mention of it in an unguarded moment brings a real stab of homesickness.

Oop. Sorry about that. Originally I had a poster of the Grand Canyon up there, but the frame was too big for that poster, so I took that down and installed this one instead. I'm going to get the Grand Canyon one framed and hang that up next instead of just pinning it to the wall.

I went to visit my parents, and my sister, my nephew, my grandmother, my aunt and uncle and two of my cousins were all there. Had to go home earlier than the others, unfortunately- I had to take the train home and make my way to the apartment after dark, and my folks always get nervous about that. I suppose I can't blame them, as it's not like this is all that nice a city, but still.

Have bought the tiebacks and the lampshade. The shade's a little wobbly, but I'll fix that. Tiebacks next, I think.

*grin* It's okay. When I was in high school I used to get nothing but male parts in the school play, and I still get mistaken for male in public during the winter unless I actually open my mouth and speak. I've gotten used to it by now.

It's ok. My father's mother mistakes me for him on the phone. My neighbours hear me talking to me mom and think I'm my father.

Some phone-sellers talk to me using the female-forms, thinking I'm a little girl. I should record my horrendous voice once, mega-bass.

*nods* I just moved out of my parents' house in February, about three days before my nephew was born (this is important because my sister and her family were to live with my folks until their house got finished, and I did not want to be in the house with a newborn baby if I could avoid it, since I have to get up in the morning for work).

Oh, okay. ... now I don't feel so bad about the fact that the only ?DFs I could think of were all out of anime, since they were things like 'defense force' and 'defense fortresses' and the like.

I hate having to guess acronyms they never explain at anime. Drives me up the wall and makes me wish my old M-16 was with me ;)
