  1. babylon 5:
Damn fine SF show. Excellent treatment of aliens. Nice to see humanity giving the order/chaos, light/dark dualism the finger. And it led me to discover that several of my favourite 80s cartoons all came from the same guy responsible for B5, so hey, I owe it a lot.
  2. canines:
Dogs, wolves, and their relatives- you name it, I'm fond of all of them. Even the ones that would conventionally be considered ugly, mean, or useless. (Although I get a bit squeebled by some of the toy breeds of domestic dog.)
  3. drawing:
Always enjoyed doing this, still do, though I haven't had the chance to sit down and do it lately. SEveral of my icons are ones I drew myself.
  4. green lantern:
"In brightest day, in darkest night..." To be Spiderman you had to be bitten, to be Batman you had to work your ass off and be filthy rich, to be Superman you had to be a space alien, but a Green Lantern had to be honest and without fear, and have a strong will. And that was it. Hal Jordan rules, man.
  5. jet li:
When they ask women what feature they look at first on a man, the answers are usually things like 'his eyes', 'his butt', 'his smile'. I tend to favour the way a man moves- and oh, God, does Jet ever know how to move!
  6. martial arts:
See above. When you see what the human body is capable of doing given enough training and practice, it makes you feel a bit better about being part of a species that the rest of the animal kingdom views as Spam on the hoof.
  7. organic gardening:
I like gardening. I like producing my own food from the ground up, as it were. I have also done a number of experiments under controlled conditions that indicate insectiside-treated pea plants don't grow nearly as well as untreated plants, at least under relatively low-insect conditions. More than that, I've seen what insectisides do to developing organisms, and while I understand that the vast majority of my food comes from insectiside-using farms, I would rather not contribute to the chemical load on the world's ecosystems by specifically using the chemicals myself.

Also, it's kind of fun to tell people that I grow damn fine hot peppers, basil, and tomatoes using poo and blood for fertilizer.
  8. sergeant preston:
Some time ago, [livejournal.com profile] cadhla asked me and several of my friends to come up with characters for a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen RPG she planned to run. We had to choose literary or entertainment characters from around 1936- whether they were in action then, or written then. No comic-book superheroes, though. Our game was to be set in the UK, so we were asked to look for Brits, with Americans acceptable with the right explanation. I decided to see if there were any Mounties from the fiction of that time- I wanted someone at least nominally subject to the crown- and I found the radio series "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon". As I am a sucker for old-time radio I checked him out, and decided to play him, and got hold of his radio series and listened to nearly all the episodes.

This is the man they based Benton Fraser on, on Due South. If Abin Sur had crashed into Earth in Preston's day, there would have been a Green Lantern with a red serge jacket, I have no doubt about that.
  9. terry pratchett:
Best damn fantasy/social commentary I know of without getting all preachy, and he has some fine characters running around, too.
  10. ungulates:
Horses. Deer. Cattle. Antelope. Elephants, hyraxes, aardvarks- if it has hoofs, or nail-hoofs (see the elephants/hyraxes/aardvarks), I find it interesting, and worth learning about.

So, favorite Jet Li movie? I'm partial to Hitman which was one of the first I saw. I believe I own every one except Danny the Dog and Dragon Fight with Stephen Chow.

People pan Black Mask but you gotta love a movie about a superhero librarian.

My Father is a Hero -- the action sequence at the restaurant is fantastic and I really like the scenes with Li and the kid washing up outside.

Woot!

(Nothing really to add except I noticed I had been neglecting to use my Jet Li icon. OK, it is Li and Donny Yen.)
