If you get more than two tens of thousands, I would look them over veeeeeeeery carefully, as the mayor of New Orleans was quoted on FOX news online saying approximately 20,000 needed to be evacuated from said Superdome.
I hope you don't mind, but I'm friending you; I live in LA and we share people on our FL. I'd just like to keep up with what's happening with the relief effort as much as I can... and if I can help with local contacts or passing along info, please let me know.
Not at all, esp. since I"m goin to Baton Rouge today and don't know when I'll be up and about communication-wise again. Feel free to use the LJ text message thing to try and contact me, though. That should work fairly well until cell service goes away.
The people I've talked to in BR thankfully have power; it is on the "light" side of the damage, though there are of course a lot of displaced people there and there was still a lot of tree and wind damage.
Since you have computer access you can try http://www.wwltv.com that is the NOLA television station and they are keeping a Katrina Blog with regular updates; they have relocated to BR for the duration.
