...though it does mean I looked it up on Google and got a pattern of sorts and found a yarn store in Soho and bought the stuff necessary.

On a completely unrelated note, at least one of my cats can growl. It's kinda freaky.

That would be the one, yes. It's a relatively easy pattern, from what I found, and I've always rather wanted a hat with ear-flaps. Something simple to wear until I've done up a fancy Fair Aisle thing.

So the voices in my head started demanding one like that as soon as they saw what it looked like. Curse you, Google Image Search.

As far as I can tell, it's Shula doing the growling, and he only does it when he's attacking the catnip mouse onna springy stick that I bought yesterday. Still weird, though.

Our cat growls whenever she hears a stranger (or a familiar person; not like she knows the difference, most of the time) approach the front door. It's the strangest noise, and kind of funny, since she's actually a rather timid beastie.

I've heard various cats growl on occasion, usually as a warning, and also sometimes make a chirpy noise when hunting birds (through a window) - it's not clear to me if they mean it as a lure or if it's an "automatic" excited/hunting noise equivalent to tail wiggling before pouncing.
