Well, 15 minutes until Grandpa's scheduled for surgery. We'll see how it goes.

Totally unrelated: last night I got to sit down and watch Firefly for the first time. The two hour pilot episode on the DVD, anyway. Will probably watch some more tonight so I can give the DVD back without angsting too much over late fees.

Slight problem: my recent adventures in graphics cards have resulted in me playing Sims 2 again. And you can do an awful lot of tweaking a character's face in Sims 2's "Body Shop" utility, plus there are lots of downloads out there for clothing. Things like, for example, long brown coats and whacked-out Hawaiian shirts. And Sims 2's "Home Crafter" utility lets you do up tiles for the floor and the walls to match whatever texture or appearance you like.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to build an entire "Serenity" shaped building, but the characters are another story entirely. Hm.

you may wish to consume 'Our Mrs. Reynolds', which features the love-to-hate her piece of sensual delight known as 'Saffron'

It's worth nothing that you can't watch "Trash" without first watching "Our Mrs. Reynolds".

Not that I would ever suggest watching the episodes out of order. That's what got us into this gorram mess in the first place.

Ew.

Yeah, let's keep the nice shiny Firefly DVDs away from Event Horizon.

*shudder*

Yeah, Camwyn! I didn't realize you hadn't watched it yet. :-)

As Joss Whedon said in the introduction to the preview screenings:

"Firefly went on the air two years ago," the giant Whedon continues, "and was immediately hailed by critics as one of the most canceled shows of the year."

*Nods* I myself wasn't thrilled with the series, but the River-centric episodes (and what we know of her is Plotbunny fodder for years) were enough to make me decide to see the movie when it hits theaters.

Oh, and hardcore fans reccomend seeing the show in the order of the following episodes. This is the production order and thus the order they "were meant to be seen" in because it's the way "Lord Whedon" wanted to tell his story. Needless to say, take it with a grain of salt, but I do reccomend seeing "The Message last. It's a fitting in to the series because the very last shot is the most perfect shot of Mal Renyolds ever, especially when you know the series was canned before it's time:

Serenity 1&2
The Train Job
Bushwacked
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs Renoylds
Jaynestown
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Heart Of Gold
Objects in Space
Trash
The Message

The Train Job can be skipped. In my opinion, all it does is beat us about the head about how much Mal hates the Alliance. However, it does have a line which makes me snicker every damn time.

Simon: "So . . . what are we doing today?"
Kaylee: "Oh. Crime."

If you liked River-centric episodes, boy howdy are you going to love the movie. (River's made of chocolate!)

And given that fact, I've got to say that I like Objects in Space as the last episode (as it is on the DVDs). It leads into the movie better than any of the others, and especially much better than "The Message."

I mean, it's not as though Joss had no control over the order in which they appeared on the DVD's....

Skipping the Train Job... I don't know. I mean, yeah, it's basically:
Couple neat moments
GIANT PLOT DUMP
Couple neat moments
End Credits

But it does have relevance to later episodes. I recommend watching it with a salt shaker labeled "FOX made them do a one hour pilot in place of their already-completed two hour pilot, squeezing in the same information, and gave them two days to write it."

Perhaps, but the Message was being made when Fox canceled the series. As such, that last shot of Mal, and the music, and hell, pretty much the whole tone of the episode is sort of "It's been a blast. See you, Space Cowboy"
