Somehow not the body part I expected to be making a stab at incapacitating pain this morning. I've taken an Aleve.

if you keep it up, you can expect quads of steel (TM)... as well as buns and calves... as for the seat issues mentioned in an earlier post, i recommend a gel saddle and cycling shorts (they have a crotch pad)...

I half considered buying a Bell saddle cover with extra gel in, but opted against it; if I'm going for cushioning I want it to be in the actual seat. This seat isn't too bad, really, but since you assume a posture more like a road biker than a mountain biker, it puts pressure on critical points. I'm probably going to get a gel saddle if this one doesn't turn out to be decent after a fortnight of riding.

God, it's been a long time since I had a bike where changing gears actually seemed to make any real difference. This one's right nice about that.

There's a variant model with a lowered top-bar for people who don't want to have to swing their leg over the back. It was designed as a commuter bike, so it's got basically slightly tougher than usual road tires and is not really intended for offroading- though it does have a front suspension, which is nice, as I'v enever had one before.

you might also consider adjusting the angle of the seat... if you spend the majority of your time in the road/racing bike position, it might be more comfortable...

Yeah, I do. Although I'm not sure how to go about tweaking that, to be honest. And I still need to get one very stubborn Allen-wrench screw on the right rear standout loose so that I can fasten the rear carrier in place, and hopefully get the fenders on as well.

there's a bolt you need to futz with that'll let you tilt it... if you look at where the saddle meets the post, you should see it.... as for the hex-bolt, long pipes are your friend: stick the long end of the wrench in one end and instant lever

Well, the thing with the hex-bolt is that I have an Ikean screwdriver with the fiddly bits to fit these bolts, and it's got a good grip. It's just that the damn screw is in too tight for me to undo, since it's partly responsible for holding the cover on the Shimano internal gearing and some of the workings of the shaft drive. The instructions on the rear rack say I've got to remove one of those two screws to get this to fit, and some attempts at using other, available screw holes indicate that the rack will only fit those holes. I'm seriously considering borrowing my dad's electric screwdriver at this point.
