I'd be happy to attend your party if I didn't live on the other side of the country. Also, I may have unusually low thresholds for willingness to meet in person with people I sorta know online, so I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't want this relative stranger showing up to your housewarming.
While traipsing off to NJ to visit someone I've never met is oddly appealing (I have as much sense as a bowling ball) I vowed recently that my next trip out of province would be either to a largeish unmissable event (wedding-scale, I mean, though I'm sure your house will be quite warm indeed) or to scope out somewhere I might want to move to.
Current candidates are Trinidad, Halifax, and the BC interior. These are likely to change by the end of this week.
Not a problem, I understand completely. It's just that I've been here since February and I've only had someone over here... I dunno. Twice, maybe. My parents haven't even visited- Mom's recovering from a knee injury that makes it hard to climb the stairs, and I'm on the fourth floor of a building with no elevator. Normally I don't mind not having the folks around, but... I could do with having a visitor or three, 's all.
If I ever get enough money saved up for the East Coast Trip of D00M, I'd be happy to add you to the list of people to see. ;D (And it helps that my 3rd brother is stationed in NJ... somewhere.)
Oh, I will at some point- after I deal with the Americans that've been asking me to visit them for several years, but probably before the Chinese penpal who wants me to visit, since he seems to think it's entirely reasonable for me to go visit him in 2008 if need be. It's the order in which the claims are made, y'see.
I had to leave the last question blank 'cause recent family medical emergencies & our hope to go to California soon make scheduling hard to predict, but we'd definitely like to visit w/you.
Sweet. Contact me with the times that're good so that I can lay in a stock of paper plates and find a kosher place to order from- I don't keep kosher myself and I'd hate to step on anyone's toes.
Michigan's kinda far for travel to visit NJ, hon. It's eight hours by car from here to Cleveland, Ohio, and Michigan is a good ways past that in my recollection- but if you do somehow manage the trip for some reason (hint: I live one light-rail stop from Liberty State Park, which has a ferry to Ellis Island and Liberty Island, always an educational experience), lemme know and glomping is fine with me.
If you get hurt its you own fault! LOL! Hey were planing a trip east and would just love to meet ya! And it does not have to be at your appartment either! We could meet some place close by. Well let me know as we are still in the planning stages of the trip and thought more like around the fourth of july but it could be soon, will keep you posted on it and let me know if you think its do able! Melinda would love to glomp you I am sure, (as your own risk though dear)
Oh, I'm fine with it, believe me. If you're going to Philadelphia, let me know; that's a relatively simple bus ride from where I live (two hours or so, but it's a straight trip on the Turnpike). I'm definitely good with it either way!
It's been a while since we had a chance to hang out, but I would prefer not to drive the 8 hours. If I took a train or a bus, would there be some reasonabe way to get from there to your apartment? And could you recommend a clean reasonably priced hotel?
Gosh. Um, if you wanted to come visit, it's really pretty easy to get to where I am; if your train or bus comes in at Penn Station, it's a block's walk to the PATH trains at 33rd Street, and you'd just take the Journal Square train from there to Grove Street. From there it's two blocks to my place. If it was a bus and it came in at the Port Authority, that's 42nd Street; that's like one subway stop from Penn Station.
As for hotels, not so much. I don't know the hotels in Jersey City at all, and the last time anyone visiting me stayed in the New York area, it was mountainspeak and she stayed in a youth hostel in Chelsea.
I'd love to, but I don't think I'm going to be in NY Metro anytime terribly soon (and if I am, it's going to be with more time spent there than in transit! Drove out from Chicago to do Thanksgiving 2003 with my folks in the northern 'burbs: arrived mid-afternoon Thursday, left 0300 Sunday morning. Mostly not worth it. Next time for longer!)
