The starlings are gone but urban wildlife has still found me. I just looked out on the fire escape to see what the weird 'kreeeh' noise was that I was hearing...

Squirrel.

Looking right at me through the window with this hugely expectant 'you have something in there for me, yes?' attitude.

Damn tree rats.

More later, perhaps, I'm goin' out to Liberty State Park now.

If it were a choice between birds and squirrels, I'd go with squirrels every time. Most squirrels at least don't make noise for no apparent reason.

I'm the sort of person who usually hangs out bird feeders when she gets the chance. This makes squirrels my enemy from day one.

Hasn't happened yet but now I am seriously reconsidering whether or not I ought to put out a windowbox for the basil when the plants get bigger.
