Good heavens. What is all this about people being evacuated from the Capitol and the White house and them telling women in the Capitol to take off their heeled shoes and just run? Something about a small plane... Reuters isn't helping right now. Anyone?.


ETA: Never mind. Now they're saying the problem is over and nobody's been shot down, blown up or crashed. Meh.

Heard it on the BBC news just this minute - there seems to be a "Federal Airspace violation", whatever that is.

Means someone went into the area around the Gov't buildings that's officially marked 'YOU DO NOT FLY HERE, DUMBASS' under FAA rules, if I remember aright.

And here's me fighting with the recalcitrant KLM website in order to put together spreadsheets of how much it costs to ferry virologists in and out of Abuja depending on how loud they whine and when you book their tickets, and I had no bloody idea there was even any drama going down forty miles south of me. timeline here (http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=748233&page=1). This was not some cynical attempt to "keep the sheeple scared", as a previous commenter would have it. The plane came within 3 miles of the White House, and for 8 minutes the threat level was at red.

What gets me is the horrible sinking certainty that if the pilot and his student had been Bangladeshi or Pakistani or something, they'd be all but nailed to the wall for grilling for the next six months, even if everything else were the same... *sigh*
