Hi,

My name is [deleted for privacy] and I'm studying History of
Religions at a university in [Scandinavian country]. I'd like to use
some of your lessons on Chinese History which I found
on the web. I have to specify my sources so I need to
know who's written the webpages and which university
he/she is working at. Can you help me?


Perhaps when I get around to writing the Qin Shihuangdi page I will include some extra disclaimers. Just to be safe. It's not that I'm not flattered but somehow 'this page by this person in New Jersey' probably shouldn't appear in bibliographies.

I used to help my mom w/ grading / reviewing student essays... You don't want to know how often stuff like that happened even then, and that was like 10 years ago.

Dude, the disclaimer on the index page for the section reads:

Disclaimer: I am not a teacher. I am not a historian. I am not a linguist. You would do far better to get yourself down to the library and look this stuff up in a real book than to rely on me. I take no responsibility for your grades if your teacher marks you off for saying 'in 771 or so BCE, the Zhou kings became UTTER AND TOTAL WEENIES' on your assignment.

I'm going to have to put that on every page, just to be on the safe side...

I have no objection to helping people, but I'm not a scholar. Just a low-grade obsessive who hasn't updated that part of the site in two years (and needs to, in all fairness).

what i do not getm and never will is that people will trust anthing they find online and put it in their biliography.
I am not implying that your stuff is not true, but there is a lot of wanky info out there. If you are looking for better quality info, go to the library or even better, to the uni.

My point exactly. I mean, I'm using the best sources I can manage most of the time- Larry Gonick's Cartoon History of the Universe has a bibliography longer and better than most 'serious' works- but honestly. I don't think serious academic works refer to Sun Tzu, Sun Pin, etc. as "Classical Kickers of Butt". You'd think that would be a tip-off.

Using my infinitesimal knowledge of Chinese, together with an online character dictionary, it seems to say something about telling him he'll have to wait a while. (Don't quote me on that.)
