I just ordered the tourism information book for the town of Inuvik, NWT.

Never mind embracing fate. Sometimes you just have to run head-on towards your doom and hope the collision is at least quick and painless.

I, too, am fascinated by the Arctic North. I was wondering how I, too, could order the tourism information book for Inuvik.

Hullo there!

The simplest way is probably to go to http://www.inuvik.ca and click on the Tourism tab. From there you'll get a menu on the left-hand side with the option to Request a Guide. This is not what I originally thought- 'request someone to guide you around town when you visit'- but is instead a free guide to tourism in and around the town of Inuvik. No idea how long it'll take to get here, but we'll see what comes up...

...And am now ordering mine, even though I know I can't go on a vacation this year (or, if I do, it'll be to New Zealand where best friend is living).

Also, when I do go, it'll be in the summer. Because I already visited the Yukon in February a few years back.

Alas, no, though I have been told enough about it to know that at this point I should make a comment about my moosey fate.

Must lend you the first DVD at some point, so you can see how you like it. It's good, but also fairly uneven - the good is really darn good, the bad is pretty awful. Still, it's got more ups than downs.

And it uses levels of rubber science unheard of in even the weirdest of comic books. (Bologna DNA is about the level you have to deal with.)

It'd almost have to be flying. I know of people who've driven the Al-Can from Seattle to wossname, Alaska, and frankly while they are worth of respect I would go bugnuts insane if I tried.

Well, I'm a big fan of bus travel. But I am absolutely certain that the Greyhound doesn't get any farther north than Whitehorse, so you'd have to make alternate arrangements from there on anyway.

The smaller planes sound like lawnmowers from the inside. :) Freaked me the hell out first time I flew in one between Whitehorse and Yellowknife.

Sounds like the plane I had to take from ... I think it was a leg of a trip to Washington DC once. For some reason I wound up booked on a propeller plane with one of the loudest engines I've ever heard, but I was actually glad of that. The guy next to me was an animal feed salesman from Kansas who felt the need to talk at great length, and I didn't have the energy to be properly polite. He talked and all I heard was the plane engine. Fine with me.

In my own defense, I was still in high school at the time, and hadn't yet begun my transition to Canadian. Although I was on my way to the U. S. Institute of Peace, since I was the state finalist for NJ in their annual essay contest.
