Thirty questions, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] cadhla.

1. IF YOU COULD BUILD A SECOND HOUSE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?

Just outside either Nanaimo or Tofino, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. Dude, did you really think I'd even have to think about this? Actually, since I live in an apartment, I'd have to build a first house first. So… first house outside Nanaimo, since that's a respectably-sized city with decent resources, and second house near Tofino, for vacation / Get The Frell Away From The Damn Humans purposes.

2. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLES OF CLOTHING?

Hats, mostly. Got an Aussie hat I bought in San Antonio, Texas; it's been squished and sweated in and stained and molded to the shape of my head, and the brim's been distorted in weird ways 'cos of me pinning it up for ren faire purposes, but it's cool. Used to have an RCMP baseball hat that I really liked, but I gave it to a man from Tennessee who collected obscure things, and in his part of Tennessee it's hard to get more obscure than a SWAT-team-style Mountie baseball cap. Currently quite fond of my DEA baseball cap- the Drug Enforcement Administration (Authority? I forget which) has a museum in Times Square with a neat gift shop.

If you insist on clothing clothing I am going to have to go with my Green Lantern t-shirt (Silver Age logo on green background) and probably a random pair of jeans.

3. THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT?

Uh. *thinks* I've been buying my music on iTunes. The last music CD I remember buying was the soundtrack to Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

4. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?

These days, 6:15, 6:40, 7:15, and 7:30. All times approximate except the last. I'm still getting used to sleeping in a new environment with unusual light levels and no box spring, so I keep waking up before I’m really ready.

5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE?

The oven. I'm a baker at heart and if I couldn't work a proper oven to make bread I would have to come up with some way to bake in a pot over the burners on top of the stove. Yeah, the fridge is a good thing, but I could make do with an icebox if I absolutely had to. Sooner or later, though, I would get homicidal if I couldn't bake.

6. IF YOU COULD PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Piano. I took lessons for twelve years as a kid. It'd be nice to sit down and find out that all of that was still there. Barring that, violin'd be spiffy; you can't sing when you play the violin, but I could never sing when I was playing piano either, so that's all right then.

7. FAVORITE COLOR?

Dark blue.

8. WHICH VEHICLE DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR, MOTORCYCLE, or SUV?

Motorcycle, I think, but then I have never driven any of the three, so I could not really say. There was a time when I wanted a Corvette. I have changed my mind since.

9. DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE AFTERLIFE?

Yes.

10. FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK?

Peter Pan. The proper Barrie version, mind you, with a callous Peter not remembering exactly when various people died and with drunken fairies coming home from orgies and stuff like that. My great-grandmother was first cousin (and unwilling babysitter) to one of the children Barrie knew, a girl named Mary Radcliffe with a bad habit of jumping off dressers and trying to fly… the story has been a dear one to my family, or at least to me, as a result.

11. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON?

I like winter quite a lot. It's got snow in. Spring is good, too, because I like seeing life coming back into the world, but I get the bejabers stepping on all the bits of stuff that fall off trees during the spring. So- winter then.

12. IF YOU HAVE A TATTOO, WHAT IS IT?

I don't go for body-mod. I'd undo my ear piercings if I could. If I had to get a tattoo it'd be my basic medical information and it'd be on my shoulder blade so that I wouldn't have to worry about it getting lost.

13. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Shapeshifting. I keep catching myself wishing I could just bend over and start running on all fours. I don't even have the Flying Dream; I have the Running On All Fours dream.

14. CAN YOU JUGGLE?

Nope.

15. ONE PERSON/PEOPLE FROM YOUR PAST YOU WISH YOU COULD GO BACK AND TALK TO.

Brian D. Larson, of Cleveland, Ohio. Good friend in school; nice guy; good friend after school. We had characters on the same RPG for quite some time after college and then one day in November of 2001 (I think) he suddenly dropped off the Net. I haven't been able to find him since. Perhaps you would like to locate one particular Brian Larson in a Midwestern United States chock full of Scandinavian last names.

16. WHAT IS UNDER YOUR BED.

Floor. I sleep on a platform bed.

17. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE DAY?

5 February 2004, the day I finally moved into a place of my own. I might think of another, more meaningful day at some point but right now that'll do nicely.

18. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SUSHI OR HAMBURGER?

Hamburger. I do like sushi, all sorts, but so far I have not had a really filling sushi experience.

19. FROM THE PEOPLE YOU WILL POST THIS TO, WHO’S THE MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND FIRST?

Dude, 232 people have me on their friends lists (231 if we ignore the troll). You really think I have the slightest idea?

20. WHO’S THE LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND?

[livejournal.com profile] cadhla, as she already did it.

21. WHO DID YOU RECEIVE THIS FROM? OR TAKEN FROM THEIR LJ?

See #20.

22. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER?

Don't like flowers.

23. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL?

Big bowl of dark brown lentil soup (with minimal escarole and celery) and a loaf of crusty rye bread with butter, 'cos any culture that produces both soup and leavened bread inevitably produces soups that taste better when they have soaked into that bread. Second place involves black bean chicken, stir-fried snow peas, and Thai fried rice with nam pla prik so hot it'll make your eyebrows sweat.

24. WHEN IS YOUR BIRTHDAY?

9 May. I share it with Billy Joel and Ezra Pound the mad poet.

25. DESCRIBE YOUR PJ’s.

Er. Yeah. Got several so I shall simply go with: a hockey jersey in the old Buffalo Sabres colours of blue, white, and gold, with a big ol' RCMP Frobisher Bay detachment patch in the middle (it has a musk ox! A big one!) and the name PETER across the back, and a pair of blue pants from some pair of pyjamas whose top I have long since lost. eBay is a wonderful thing.

26. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BREAKFAST?

I don't generally eat breakfast. But Ovaltine's tops.

27. DO YOU LIKE YOUR JOB?

Yes. Yes, I do.

28. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB?

Oh, writing'd be good, I think. Although really my dream job is whatever allows me to make enough money to write and get the hell away from people asking me to do stuff, without either stressing me out or compromising my ethical principles (wouldn't work at Monsanto, Dow Chemical, Philip Morris, etc.).

29. WHAT AGE DO YOU PLAN TO RETIRE?

… retire?

30. WHERE DID YOU MEET YOUR SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER?

School.

BONUS: SOMETHING YOU’D LIKE TO DO THAT YOU’VE NEVER DONE BEFORE?

Seeing the Southern Cross in person, along with the other stars of the Southern Hemisphere.

I have a copy of that book that I think might actually be a first edition as the copyright is 1911. It is one of my favorites too for broadly the same reasons.

Did you see Finding Neverland? It was sweet.

30. WHERE DID YOU MEET YOUR SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER?

School.

O.O Dude.

I have had never had a whiff of a hint of a clue of the existance of any Significant Other in your life.

Unrelated note: my latest eBay purchase arrived today. The entire first season of Due South, on DVD.

hee! It's not unrelated, it's just not related to THIS post. :) I wish I had ever seen it. [livejournal.com profile] eor says the first season is "quality stuff." (He didn't happen to see many later seasons.)

Hehehe. My first reaction to this comment? "EEEEE, oh yay! Someone else can become an addict!!"

Enjoy it. It's hard not to.

It's so worth it. I really disliked season one at first because I didn't like the original Ray, but it definitely grew on me. And after watching it about ... five times, I just love it. Vecchio won me over, even though he'll never be as dear to me as Ray Kowalski. ;)

Aww, thanks. What's funny is that I just finished reading your answer today right before I checked my email and got this comment. It was a really lovely answer.
