I just realised... if my father can't have time off to help me move, then...

I GET! TO RENT! A TRUCK!!!

U-haul is right near my parents' house. I can drive anything up to and including a 24-foot basic truck- I did it for the Red Cross for three weeks, after all. I can pack everything into the truck and then figure out what to do with it all.

But I get to rent a truck!

Well, understand, my last Red Cross disaster assignment was 'get into a converted ambulance with one of your co-workers and drive from New Jersey to Atlanta, Georgia, then drive from Atlanta to Daytona Beach, Florida, and when you get there, drive the ambulance or truck anywhere they tell you to go'. I had to take special training and a defensive driving course before they'd let me drive the ambulance. And then when they put me in the Budget rental truck I had to navigate with a scrap of mirror that was maybe four square inches 'cos no one had noticed it had broken yet. It was all a very big driving adventure, and there is something about driving a truck that appeals. Perhaps merely that even the SUVs have to cower, and that you can finally see what's in front of you despite them...

I'm gonna have to sit with drharper on this one. Big vehicles terrify me, and I've had a special training and defensive driving course. But good luck on the move whether you rent a truck or not!

Hey, whatever floats your boat (or fails to do so). My only real qualm is finding parking so I can haul stuff. That and, well, hauling stuff. I can disassemble my bed down to the component boards- I did that once with a screwdriver, so I know it can be done. The desk, not so much. The dresser... well, I doubt it'll be very heavy once it's emptied, yanno?

But, as I said in Florida when they offered me the keys, AY DRAIVE BEEG TRUCK!!!

Me, give me a Hummer. I don't mean the H2's that the yuppie's are running around in, I mean the kick-ass, military surplus H1. Now that's a car.
