Woke up this morning from a dream that the rains were falling so hard overnight that our driveway was flooded and our yard was in water up to the second step on the front stoop. However, the two dehumidifiers and the sump pump in the basement were working so well that it was actually dry down there.

Contrary to the laws of narrative causation I did not have to pee when I woke up. Neither had I already piddled- I'd made sure of that just before going to bed.

Keeping an eye on Bonnie & Co. anyway...

*curious* How does a dehumidifier work?

Bugger if I know. I'm guessing there's a little chiller/condenser unit in there somewhere and a fan that blows air over the coils, so that when it hits the cold spots the moisture condenses out and drops into the big bucket I have to empty every so often- but that's just a guess.

Pretty much right, Camwyn - it amounts to running a little air conditioner that blows air over the hot side to warm it back up a bit after condensing out the humidity on the cool side.

Sears, I think. My parents just got a new one. But they only make the air less damp, they don't actually keep floodwaters out of the basement.
