Um. Dude. If you put me and Ms. Rand in the same room for more than about fifteen minutes, there's a very good chance either someone would wind up dead, or I'd have earned myself some kind of diplomacy prize for finding common ground where there was only empty air. While I admire a lot of her principles and characters, I find others to be problematic at best, and, well, I'm religious. Not really compatible with her OR her characters.

And I'm not so sure about the rest of it beyond the part about not caring what others think, and the compromise bit. Someone else would have to verify or deny, really.

The response I got was about half me, half someone I've never even met and wouldn't like if I did meet.

I don't like the quiz. It just seems poorly designed to me. The questions (which aren't really questions) are vague, conflicting, and annoying.

I have to admit that reading Atlas Shrugged did change my point of view on some things, although her habit of beating me over the head with her ideals got really tiresome by the end of the book. Overall, I'm with you. Her Objectivism is a little too harsh for me to swallow completely. Yes, quality should matter, and yes we should think for ourselves, but much of the rest of it - she is a bit too unforgiving of the human race, I think.

We the Living was a very interesting book though. And I liked the Fountainhead. Mostly.

heh, same as me.:) And I didn't think it suited me at all, but who am I to judge myself? Also, I know zero about Ayn Rand except that I probably would hate her - personally, at any rate.:) All I know about her I learned from Matt Ruff's book, "Sewer, Gas and Electric," where he slams "Atlas Shrugged" pretty thoroughly.
