Jun. 9th, 2004 11:21 amWent to New York City yesterday, with
lwood. It's been a dog's age since I'd seen her, and since she emailed me to let me know she was in town, and I had some time off, why not? We saw a good bit of downtown Manhattan and part of Brooklyn, and I met a bunch of her friends, all of whom were very cool people. Alas, my tendency to walk in NYC because I despise waiting for transportation to arrive has backfired on me; my right knee and lower leg are in a bit of pain, and I don't know whether it's from stepping off a kerb wrong or sitting crosslegged on the stool at Fiddlesticks for too long, or what. Oh, well, it was still a good day.
We did visit the site of the Twin Towers at one point. I will write about that another time. It was my first visit since 12 September 2001, though.
On a completely unrelated note, I have got started on the John and Snape portion of Constantine's interrogation scene, and I have been reminded that the use of '/' to indicate that you are writing about the interaction of two male characters in a scene revolving entirely upon character interaction is no longer, how you say, SAFE IN ANY WAY. I will not make that mistake again, thanks.
As well, I wandered over to the Pit of Voles on a lark. Wanted to see if anyone had written League of Extraordinary Gentlemen fanfic based on the comic books. There's no League listing under 'Comics', alas, but there is an extraordinary amount of CRAP under the LXG subheading in the 'Movies' category. And I mean craptacular crap. The word 'Degrassi' does not belong ANYWHERE near the League, even if it is the League of the movies. It just DOESN'T. EVER. I won't go into the rest of it; I just saw 'AU! The League as if the members were all in the same high school together! Think Degrassi!' and the red mist came up over my vision.
(Sorry, Degrassi is the one thing capable of making me want to go to war with Canada.)
Am considering bombing them with Diary of a Mountie anyway, just to see how that goes over with the crowd there- and, yes, to get it read by more people. You never know.

Date: 2004-06-09 08:39 am (UTC)John-Snape interaction, however, does not bear the same stigma.

Date: 2004-06-10 07:49 am (UTC)That is painful. I am sure we can find out something for them to do ... worse than the maple mines. Send them up to north ontario-io to bear country and even worse ... blackfly country. Make them plant trees in the areas where even the silly university students who think it'll be an 'easy' job won't go *G*
Assigned for classes is extra evil though. The only tv show I ever had to watch for school was this show that no one else I know remembers called 'read all about it' which was actually quite cool for an educational program. And it was during class, so bonus points ...
