Found a song the other day that I absolutely positively HAD to put in John's mouth at some point during Hellblazer: Hogwarts. But something occurred to me about it, and I looked up the album release date.

1997.

Year of the battle at the Ministry in OotP, according to the Lexicon: 1996.

Given that the song is by Captain Tractor, an obscure Canadian band from the Alberta area, there's no way that John would have access to it during his 1997 time at Hogwarts.

But lord, it's such a good song for him...

Ah, but looking at the liner notes from that album -- "This song's been kicking around for a couple of years, and has undergone some radical rewrites. None of it changes the facts that the guy was a friend, a jerk, he's dead, and we've yet to hear from him. Gimme some sugar, baby!"

So, maybe he caught an earlier version of it when they were touring New Zealand or Europe (which they apparently did just before that album was released.)

(It'd have to be while Captain Tractor toured Europe or New Zealand...I don't know "Hellblazer" that well, but I can't imagine any crisis in Edmonton that would draw Constantine's attention...)

I have always loved that song since I first heard it, and now I am at work without it on my mp3 listing and craving it. argh!! *L*

Glad there's a work around to get it to work in the story though cause I agree *L* works well. Can't wait to see it!

Ok, realizing that I've been away for a few days and maybe nobody's checking this thread anymore, but I've got to say it anyway--Given that these are not just fictional, but a marriage of two SEPARATE fictional universes, I wouldn't worry about a year. Who's to say that in the Hellblazer universe the song didn't come out earlier?

I say, if it makes you happy, go with it. I don't think anyone's going to mind. Hell, Star Wars used Parsecs as a unit of TIME, and we still love it....

And you did very well with the last section; the darkness was well in keeping with John's worldview and the upcoming wizard-war. Looking forward to the next. Have a good day!
