It starts with your sister floating a bunch of spinach leaves in the sink to get the sand off while she works on some other part of dinner. When you ask if you can help, she asks you to get rid of the ladybug clinging to one of the leaves.
You take the leaf outside, along with some stale bread that you've been asked to feed to the wild birds. The ladybug is still on the leaf when you get to the property line, and is still there even after you chuck the bread into the woods. Out of a desire to see how long it'll stay, you go back to the house and wait at the door, but the bug doesn't go. You eventually shake it off into some plants and go inside.
When your sister finds another ladybug in the spinach you take it outside as well. You notice this one is a little larger and has a smaller number of spots...
...and the first thought through your head as you realize this is 'hmm. This kind of thing could make for an excellent epic saga of war and vengeance among the ladybugs; the second bug almost lost its chance for vengeance on the first when the first was rescued and the second left to drown, but now they've both been set free by the mysterious powers no bug their size can understand...'
As I said, this is how you know you're me.
