My post this morning also has to do with groups of people being violent at other groups of people, and responses... what is it with humans anyway?

Well, I'm wearing my kilt (which is olive) and a Guinness t-shirt. However, I do this on any given day, so it's hardly worth comment.

Really, though, St. Patrick's Day in America isn't so much an actual celebration of Ireland and Irish culture as it is the celebration of some theoretical and vague celtic culture which involves beer, green things, and more beer. This is something I can always support.

All's I know is that working just north of the parade and just off Fifth Avenue, the area around me is innundated in kelly green, with roaming marching bands going to their buses home, and every off-duty firefighter in the city making his way from the parade to the pubs on Third Avenue. I even saw a firefighter from Boston pass by in the company of a locla comrade.

And then I had to deal with the hordes going home from the parade on the train.

Why can't they hold this parade on the West Side just once?

(OTOH, it's still a lot more interesting than the stodgy old Salute to Israel Parade, which lacks for many Jewish cops and firefighters, and for marching bands from yeshivas.)

hahahaha...

Guy I know once explained his complicated ancestry by saying that his left big toe likes to paint itself blue and beat up the rest of him.

*laugh* I'm an eighth Spanish, an eighth Italian, a quarter Puerto Rican, and half Greek.

I think my sides have given up trying to figure out who's supposed to be doing what to whom and started having a party with lots of loud music and dancing and assorted alcohol. Oh, and they all flail their arms around a lot.

I wore blue 'cos it was Wednesday. Well, okay, I wear blue most days, but on Wednesdays it's with a bit more intent.

I did, however, make corned beef and cabbage, but that's less of an Irish-association than a home-and-mom-and-March association -- which I can't have at home due to Mike's aversion to the smell of boilt cabbage. Bah!

So I foisted it on the Greyhaven gang instead. 8-)
