camwynOut of a kind of lazy curiosity, I typed my LJ username into Google today. The first item returned was my own LJ, which was pleasing to me, because one does not search for one's nomen of the momen' without a certain amount of ego being involved. Many of the other links returned referred to my LJ as well, albeit through other people's pages. Some pointed at my fanfics, and one or two pointed at my photo/drawing albums on care2.com or even my megaloceros.net web page.
There were a few camwyns not related to me. I was a bit surprised to see anyone else bothered to use the name; when I started out with this name online, the only other person I found using it was a noblewoman in the SCA. She didn't turn up this time. I found some guy in New Hampshire who appears to belong to a real estate appraisal group, another guy who's involved in the online BDSM community, someone (male, I think) who gets involved in chats about Gor, a Troll character at a Changeling RPG...
... and about a metric ton of border collies.
No, seriously. There's border collies named things like Camwyn Sweep, Camwyn Tess, Camwyn Cataclysm, you name it. Some are in Finland. Some are in Australia. Some are in Victoria, BC. I can't read the font for one of the pages about these dogs but I think there might be some in Japan, too.
Not bad for a name that I lifted from an extremely minor background character in Elizabeth Moon's Deed of Paksenarrion books.
