Eeeee! Yak!

Today's Real Life comic strip features Tony (sometime Evil Overlord of Earth) returning from his unfortunate missile-based trip to China, and unless I am greatly mistaken, he's got a royal yak with him! Or possibly a trim, but the yak's body is out of sight so I can't tell if it's solid or piebald beyond its face...

... dude, I know the names for different colour patterns of yak. Has anyone seen 'normal American' lately? I'd kind of like to know which direction I should wave in if I want anyone who happens to live there to know that I realise I'm not with 'em any more.

Just don't get me started on how founder effect and genetic bottlenecking combined to produce an unhealthily high level of Turner's Syndrome-esque chromosomal defects in the population of Smurf Village, and we'll all be fine.

Nope. The colour patterns of yaks, the tattoos used by Marshall Ferrets (largest breeder and seller-to-petstores of ferrets in my area), the way in which breed standard for the hindquarters of the American Quarter Horse differs from the standards for virtually every other breed of horse in North America save possibly the Canadian Cutting Horse... it's all there, and then some.

The comic strip FoxTrot once featured the mother asking her ten-year-old, "Jason, when you're at school, do you get a sense that other kids are different?" Pfeh. Some of us aren't even like the other children who aren't like the other children.
