One hundred years ago today a pair of brothers from Ohio officially earned themselves a promotion from 'bicycle shop owners' to 'scientific experiments and inventors'. True, their first apparently successful experiment lasted all of twelve seconds and there are those who say it was nothing but the launch catapult, and there are those who say their local heroes got there first or got there better, but in the end it was a pair of dedicated fellows who invested time, money, effort, and faith in a dream of scientifically explainable, easily reproducible, mechanically managed flight in a vehicle heavier than the air around it.
