I installed Windows XP Professional. Why, you ask? Why, when Windows 98 SE was doing such a spiffy job on its own?

Two syllables: iTunes.

I've used LimeWire a long time. I signed on with Napster ages ago. But to tell you the truth, I always felt uncomfortable about it. I don't like knowing that I'm benefiting from someone's creative work when they aren't being rewarded for it. yeah, record companies, yeah, evil, yeah, artist hardly sees any money made from song, whatever. Doesn't make stealing right, and I know that's what I'd been doing.

So when iTunes for the PC came out I tried to download it - and saw that I had to have at least Win 2000 to run it. Such wailing! Such gnashing of teeth! But ah, I got a chance at work to order XP Pro for the chapter CEO - and at discount prices, too, such that I was able to buy a second copy of XP Pro. Now I have it, and it is installed on my home machine, and as soon as I have finished downloading the latest security updates I will download and install iTunes. This makes me happy.

(Given that I'm still sick as a dog and my coughing more resembles a cat trying to bring up a hairball than a simple cough, I'll take anything that makes me happy just now.)

I hope you feel better soon!

Here's my granny's recipe for "cough syrup"... I used to have whooping cough when I was younger and it always worked for me...

1 part honey
1 part lemon juice
1 shot of whiskey

Mix, and take liberal amounts.

*wink wink*

Yay XP! Yay iTunes! Hope you feel better soon. Also hope you like XP as much as I do - I have been very pleased with it, as far as the user experience.

If you use a software firewall such as ZoneAlarm, be aware that you need to go to properties for the network connection and disable the XP firewall. Last time I checked they didn't get along well. :)

Trust me, 98SE wasn't doing a spiffy job. You can hate MS all you like (heck, I encourage it) but the 2K based OSes are lightyears better than the 9X ones. Task Manager alone is worth the price of admission. :) The 'doesn't blow up with crappy shareware MU* clients go boom' is just icing.
