Next part of router saga
Oct. 14th, 2003 02:07 pmTook the router back to CompUSA today. Explained that I had no receipt, but did have a carbon copy of the check with which I paid on Thursday. The girl behind the counter looked at the box, hefted it a bit (I guess to make sure the router was in there without looking), then turned and began punching things into her computer.
"Do you want to get something else today?" she said.
When I returned with a Linksys router for $49.99, she rang me right through. I got full credit for the non-functioning router- she didn't even charge me the restocking fee. I paid the remaining $21-some-odd on my bank card and now have the Linksys in my car, waiting to be taken home and used. If this one doesn't work, I'll pin the blame on the network card I installed and get a new one, but I rather expect the Linksys will do better.
I suppose there are advantages to buying store brand, if only that doing so makes return verification a bit easier.
