Well, sod THAT.
Oct. 10th, 2003 09:20 pmI downloaded the firmware upgrade for the CompUSA store brand router (Gigafast being the name they gave when I phoned tech support) and installed it. It installed, but the Ready light just kept flashing, and despite my best efforts I did not manage to persuade the damnable thing to connect to the Internet. I am not even sure if the router was able to speak to the modem at ALL, save that the router administration screen claimed to have received a few hundred bytes from the WAN - I assume that means 'yeah, I communicated with the modem'. Bugger that for a game of soldiers. Tech support closed down at 8:30 Eastern time and won't be back until Monday. I'm going to see if I can exchange this thing for a Linksys or a Netgear at CompUSA even though I seem to have lost the receipt. In the meantime, night-time network foo is not really in the cards for me unless I get to use the main computer in the TV room... ah well. I needed a break anyway. I'll catch up on my sleep and use the extra time to work on Sergeant Preston and my game of Civ III; there's a new form of Civ III coming out, Conquests, which introduces whole new governments and other neat stuff.
