Today I got dessert.
Aug. 2nd, 2003 10:39 pmIt had corn in it.
Word of advice: if you go to the Singapore Cafe, on Mott Street in New York's Chinatown, be prepared for excellent food. The chicken rendang (I want to say ayam rendang but I'm not sure that's right) was very good even though I don't normally eat dark meat, particularly not when it's still on the bone. You should also be prepared for excellent dessert; the Singapore Ice was great. Shaved ice, sweetened and flavoured. I knew that there'd be red beans and tapioca involved because I had seen the dessert mentioned in a newspaper review on the door of the restaurant, and the writer had said something about those two being buried in it. They were. Along with the corn, and with several fruit-or-nut-like clear things about the size of Mentos. All in all, very good stuff, I liked it...
But, yanno, if you're gonna eat there - be prepared for the corn. We're talkin' whole kernel niblets here, in quantities that almost outdo the red beans. Just be prepared for the corn.
