Both such laws came into play today. I ordered a set of MP3 cd's containing pretty much the entire run of Sergeant Preston radio programs. I hoped they'd arrive before the League game so I'd have them as reference material.

The Law of Narrative Convention states that certain things will always happen, because they are Appropriate To The Story.
The Law of D'Oh! states that what happens under the Law of Narrative Convention will happen in a fashion most likely to cause the person involved to slap their forehead and yell 'd'oh!'.

The CDs did not arrive in time for the game. This is Narrative Convention.
They arrived today, the day after the game. That is the Law of D'oh!.

Ah well... On another note I discovered that my Preston date fudgery isn't as exaggerated as it might be. The program debuted in 1938 rather than 1947 - '47 was the date it went national. '38 was the year it started in the local market in Detroit. The pages I found about the show indicated the stories took place in 'the 1890s', nothing more specific. I figured I'd fudge it by saying 'late 1890's, early 1900's'. According to the intro to the programs, the gold find in the Yukon that precipitated all these stories was made in 1898. Law of D'oh! again, I'm thinking.
