A day well spent.

Went into Manhattan today. Wanted to spend the day at the museum. Did. Got to the Asia Society, saw the tea exhibit, very nice. Went to the Met, drew ONE THING. Have no idea how long it took me. Didn't have a watch, didn't look at a clock. I know one of my legs went into pins and needles at least twice in the process and I heard about eight people go 'oo, samurAI!' as they walked into the other end of the Hall of Arms and Armor room I was in. Don't care. Good picture. Ain't never ever EVER gonna try and color it, my left arm nearly fell off as it stands. (I don't have an easel when I go to museums, I just hold the pad in my left hand.)

Have no idea how long it took me.

It took exactly as long as it needed to take to be the thing it needed to be.

I only brought up the length of time thing because the people who wandered through as I was finishing asked me how long it took me to draw, and I had no idea. I remember asking them 'what time is it?' and guessing a two and a half hour time span, but that's pure conjecture. That thing was as close to Zen timelessness as I ever got. (There were a few spaces where I wondered what time it was, but I fought that impulse down and went back to work.)

I showed the soldier's garb to one of the museum guards later. His response? "Impressive. As Darth Vader once said... most impressive."

I think I win.
