Dec. 9th, 2021 08:28 amSigns you have been dealing with women's clothing too long:
A male friend asks you to attempt the cloning of a beloved old pair of shorts, because they like the way they fit, the shorts were from the late 1980s, and modern shorts that suit them in terms of length tend to be cut for people with very different waist sizes.
You successfully draw up pattern pieces and assemble a reasonably accurate muslin, so you start on the fashion fabric. The original shorts had two pockets in the back, so you cut the pieces for two pockets and start the process of 'interfacing here, overcast edge here, sew these together, trim this bit, flip this bit around', and get to the buttonholes. You use the buttonholer function on your sewing machine on both pocket pieces and when you turn one of them over you realize you weren't paying attention and put the buttonhole on one of the pockets in a non-reinforced side rather than the interfaced bit.
"Friend," you say, "either I have to cut a second pocket piece and start over with that, or you get a pair of shorts with only one pocket in back."
"Oh," says friend, "I haven't used back pockets since my wallet fell out of one in college. I only use my front pockets now. Back pockets don't even matter."
And you find yourself utterly unable to comprehend how anyone could possibly say that a piece of clothing that NORMALLY comes with pockets DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE THOSE POCKETS.
