Aug. 6th, 2021 03:56 pmBought a refurbished serger online with the intent of learning to use it for knits, esp. activewear and eventually cosplay. Reading the manual now.
Remember how I was impressed that the sewing machine's manual came with the great big "under no circumstances should you let children or impaired people or people who're just plain tired enough to make mistakes use this, it will HURT" warning?
Very nearly every single 'this is how you do A Thing' entry in the serger's manual starts with a triangle-exclamation-point warning saying MAKE SURE YOU TURN THE MACHINE OFF FIRST.
And pretty much all of the others say NEVER MIND TURNING IT OFF FOR THIS, UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL.
I suppose it's like the difference between the sheer number of helicopter emergencies where the default is LAND, JUST LAND versus the ones that are LAND RIGHT THE FUCK NOW I DO NOT CARE IF YOU ARE OVER A SUNOCO STATION OR A HIGHWAY OR A BASEBALL FIELD WITH KIDS ON IT, LAND.
