Oh, and he doesn't like zippers on bags.
I found a pattern for a tote using a type of interfacing called Stiff Stuff which stands up and holds its shape pretty well, and the measurements are close to a paper bag; I've made some adjustments to that. Same deal with the handles, so they'll be closer to paper bag handles in size than to tote handles. The pattern calls for a zipper on the top and a pocket in the liner. I'm doing a liner, but there will be no pocket, and I think I am just going to bind the top edges with bias tape- I have enough of the blue marbled quilting fabric left to make enough bias tape to run around the edges, once I work out how to fasten it. Probably going to sew the liner layer to the front facing layer and then add the bias tape.
No idea how this is going to turn out but we shall see, and if it works then I will probably get some more denim needles and upholstery thread and some more Stiff Stuff and do it again so there'll be multiple bags (I'm using canvas, it needs to be a fabric that can be put through the washing machine and that'll hold up under regular heavy use).
We shall see.
