Well, it works.

I had to replace the needle. The existing one is just fine, but when I was going over the thread path I saw a color band just visible on the needle- purple. Turns out that's code for 'this is a Singer needle sized for use with denim', which is overkill for my purposes. I also had to tape a part of the thread path into place, a small metal thread guide whose screw wouldn't tighten. I'll try glue later.

There's a spring arm involved on the tensioner. I can't make out how it's supposed to be positioned in the How To Thread picture from the 304b manual. I'm hoping for the best.

So far I've been doing basic straight seams and slightly curved ones on pieces I cut for the Olson Mask pattern. I've used a pair of scraps to start stitching, like using a leader in quilting, and so far I think I've screwed up less than any of the times I've used the little bitty machine. My biggest issue has been fitting my legs under the table to use the knee pedal.

I *think* I have the tension set right. I know I've got the stitch length set to Super Tiny, based on what I've seen so far

Hopefully this will continue to work. No fires yet.
