World’s first industrial-scale maggot farm to expand to Calif.
Long story short: they raise maggots on farm waste and sell them to fish farming and poultry farming operations as high protein feed.
It's... logical enough. I can see it working as a means of providing acceptable food to farmed animals that eat that kind of thing. It seems like it's more efficient and less bio-magifying than, y'know, grinding up fish species that humans don't eat and feeding them to fish species that humans do eat, and honestly, chickens are omnivores that would eat a fly or a maggot on their own if they managed to catch one, so no big deal there.
Might make for a little bit of awkward conversation at parties when the conversation goes into 'what do you do for a living' mode.
