Back from visiting my parents for Thanksgiving. It went well. no, I didn't mention I was going, I have a standard policy of not giving any notice online when I'm about to leave my home unoccupied for a significant period of time. I'm a New Yorker by birth and upbringing. You don't hang out a sign saying 'burglars welcome, come as you are'.

Meanwhile I got a letter dated November 15th, from Newegg, saying 'you placed an order during this time period and your information may have been collected'. It did not say what 'this time period' was. I assumed it was the most recent quarter. It was not. I did a search for 'newegg data breach' and discovered that they were ONLY JUST NOW getting around to notifying me that between August 14th and some date in early/mid September, a hacker collective had inserted fifteen lines of skimming code on their website that could potentially have copied my credit card information when I made a purchase. I made one purchase from them, in late August.

let me repeat that the letter is dated November 15th and does not actually mention what 'this time period' is.
