I apologized to people at the office twice for being groggy 'because I stayed up late to watch the rover land on Mars' before I finally clicked on today's xkcd.

Even after seeing other news headlines this morning and knowing the terrible things that happened on Earth yesterday, and on this day in 1945... thanks to that robot and those wonderful engineers, I can't stop smiling.

Maybe it's just the whole 'sleep is for people who cannot watch the live feed from JPL' thing clouding my brain, but I seem to remember that somewhere out there- possibly on Livejournal, I don't know- is the text of some form of ceremonial dedication prayer to be read or performed before the first firing of some kind of super high tech laser. I'm almost positive it's a western Pagan ceremony rather than an invocation of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, but I could be wrong- like I said, precious little sleep last night. My google-fu is not the greatest at the moment. Can anyone fill me in on whether I'm completely deluded about this? Has anyone else seen this thing?




.... it's not vital or anything, I'm hoping to adapt it or write something similar in tone for a roleplaying game, that's all. Assuming it exists and I'm not off my rocker.
